Overview

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), New Delhi, is a NAAC ‘A++’ accredited central university and one of India’s most respected public institutions. Founded in 1920 and located in the Okhla area of South Delhi, JMI blends a century-old legacy with modern, industry-relevant education across engineering, law, management, mass communication, medicine, humanities, and applied sciences. Its A++ accreditation from NAAC (CGPA 3.61) places it among the highest-rated universities in the country.
What truly sets Jamia apart is its rare combination of academic excellence and affordability. The university offers 300+ undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and doctoral programmes through its 10+ faculties and specialised centres, including the prestigious AJK Mass Communication Research Centre, the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Engineering & Technology, the Faculty of Dentistry, and the Centre for Management Studies. Admissions are primarily entrance-based through the JMI entrance test, CUET, and JEE Main, ensuring a merit-driven student community.
Jamia’s credentials are validated by top rankings: it is ranked among India’s top universities by NIRF and holds a place in the 401–500 band of the THE World University Rankings 2026, standing third among all Indian institutions. Its law, architecture, engineering, and dental programmes consistently feature in national top-10 lists.
For students, JMI delivers exceptional return on investment. Total tuition fees for most programmes range between roughly ₹20,000 and ₹1 lakh for the entire course — among the lowest for any university of comparable standing — with additional scholarships, merit aid, and low-cost hostel facilities.
